Michael Schiffer is an observationalist whose work frames the aesthetics of surface corrosion on raw materials. Schiffer explores the unbounded formal potential in the properties of steel and wood, by the process of oxidation, to draw attention to the intricacy of its surface; time and labor leave residue of abstract gestures.

Michael Schiffer (b. 1989, Beacon, NY) received a BFA from the Corcoran School of Art and Design at George Washington University, Washington D.C. (2016). He has previously exhibited in New York, Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC. Schiffer is currently based in Milan, Italy.
